Program Studi Magister Matematika didirikan pada tahun 1992 dengan SK Nomor 128/DIKTI/Kep./1992 tanggal 11 April 1992 dengan tujuan ikut membantu pemerintah dalam mengembangkan pendidikan dan penelitian di bidang matematika, baik teori maupun aplikasinya. Program Studi Magister Matematika menawarkan program pada peserta didik untuk memperkaya mahasiswa dengan tingkat kemampuan matematika lanjut yang baik, untuk mempersiapkan lulusan memasuki dunia kerja maupun untuk studi lanjut. Pelaksanaan program pendidikan dan penelitian pada Program Studi Magister Matematika Universitas Gadjah Mada didukung oleh 6 (enam) Laboratorium Keilmuan, yaitu

• Laboratorium Analisis,
• Laboratorium Aljabar,
• Laboratorium Matematika Terapan,
• Laboratorium Statistika,
• Laboratorium Komputasi Matematika, dan
• Laboratorium Komputasi Statistika

dan menawarkan 4 (empat) bidang minat / konsentrasi.

Dalam 5 (lima) tahun terakhir (TA 2017/2018 sd TA 2021/2022), pada setiap tahunnya, Program Studi Magister Matematika Universitas Gadjah Mada mengelola dan mendidik sejumlah kurang lebih 125 sd 200 mahasiswa. Selama 30 tahun (sejak berdiri April 1992 sampai dengan April 2022), Program Studi Magister Matematika UGM telah meluluskan sebanyak kurang lebih 1500 magister matematika dengan berbagai minat atau konsentrasi.

Untuk terjaminnya perbaikan secara terus menerus (continuous improvement), pada Program Studi Magister Matematika UGM dilakukan audit oleh Kantor Jaminan Mutu UGM melalui kegiatan Audit Mutu Internal (AMI) pada setiap tahun, yang didahului dengan kegiatan TKS (Tim Koordinasi Semester) yang dilakukan paling tidak dua kali dalam satu semester. Selanjutnya setiap 5 tahun diakreditasi oleh Badan Akreditasi Nasional Perguruan Tinggi. Sampai dengan akhir tahun akademik 2021/2022 ini, Program Studi Magister Matematika UGM selalu mendapatkan peringkat “Unggul” atau “A”.

Sebagaimana diyakini oleh semua pihak, kualitas pendidikan tentu tidak hanya bergantung pada kelas formal, namun juga bergantung kepada atmosfer (suasana) akademik dan interaksi yang baik antara mahasiswa, dosen, dan komunitas akademik yang lain. Untuk mewujudkan kondisi tersebut, Program Studi Magister Matematika UGM berusaha semaksimal mungkin mewujudkannya dengan menyelenggarakan kegiatan-kegiatan Kolokium, Workshop, Seminar, Konferensi dan penelitian serta pengabdian kepada masyarakat (PkM) yang melibatkan mahasiswa.

[:en]The Mathematics Masters Study Program was founded in 1992 with Government Decree Number 128/DIKTI/Kep./1992 dated 11 April 1992 with the aim of helping the government in developing education and research in the field of mathematics, both theory and application. The Master of Mathematics Study Program offers programs to students to enrich students with a good level of advanced mathematics skills, to prepare graduates to enter the world of work and for further studies. The implementation of educational and research programs in the Master of Mathematics Study Program is supported by 5 (five) Scientific Laboratories (research groups), namely

• Analysis Laboratory / Research Group,
• Algebra Laboratory / Research Group,
• Applied Mathematics Laboratory / Research Group,
• Statistics Laboratory / Research Group, and
• Computational and Data Science Laboratory / Research Group,

and offers 4 (four) areas of interest / concentration.

In the last 5 (five) academic years (AY 2017/2018 to AY 2021/2022), every year, the Master of Mathematics Study Program at Gadjah Mada University manages and educates approximately 125 to 200 students. For 30 years (from its founding in April 1992 to April 2022), the UGM Mathematics Masters Study Program has graduated approximately 1650 mathematics masters with various interests or concentrations. To ensure continuous improvement, the UGM Mathematics Masters Study Program is audited by the UGM Quality Assurance Office through Internal Quality Audit (AMI) activities every year, which are preceded by TKS (Semester Coordination Team) activities which are carried out at least twice in one semester. Furthermore, every 5 years it is accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN PT). Until the end of the 2021/2022 academic year, the UGM Mathematics Master’s Study Program has always received an “Excellent” or “A” accreditation level.

As is believed by all parties, the quality of education certainly does not only depend on formal classes, but also depends on the academic atmosphere and good interaction between students, lecturers and other academic communities. To realize this condition, the UGM Mathematics Masters Study Program is trying its best to make it happen by holding Colloquium, Workshop, Seminar, Conference and research and community service (PkM) activities involving students.[:]
