The Department of Mathematics at FMIPA UGM consistently supports UGM in achieving its mission. As a leading higher education institution, UGM has established numerous collaborations with partner universities in remote and outermost areas, including through Community Service Programs (PkM). In this series of PkM activities, the Department of Mathematics at FMIPA UGM collaborated with Universitas Khairun Ternate for the “Enhancement of Competence for MGMP Mathematics Teachers of High School and Junior High School in Ternate, North Maluku.”
The PkM team from the Department of Mathematics at FMIPA UGM includes experts such as Prof. Dr. Sri Wahyuni, Prof. Dr. Rini Indrati, Dr. Lina Aryati, supported by Dr. Pekik Nurwantoro from the Department of Physics at FMIPA UGM. The team is also assisted by staff and students. Meanwhile, the team from Universitas Khairun Ternate includes local speakers and committees, facilitated by the presence of alumni from the Master’s Program in Mathematics at FMIPA UGM who work there.
The primary goal of the PkM program “Mathematics UGM and Mathematics Education Unkhair Go to School” is to develop the MGMP Mathematics in Ternate, both at high school and junior high school levels. The event was attended by 51 participants including MGMP members and students from the Mathematics Education Program. The main focus was on “Active Mathematics Learning and the Use of Information Technology.” The PkM activities were held offline on October 24, 2022, and online on October 25, 2022.
In addition to delivering public lectures and PkM activities, the team’s visit was also utilized to strengthen collaboration through the signing of MoUs between FMIPA UGM, FKIP Unkhair, and MGMP Mathematics in Ternate City. This collaboration includes improving the quality of education, research, and community service.
Furthermore, the PkM team also delivered public lectures at the University of North Maluku, focusing on the application of mathematics in various fields.
Although the activities have concluded, both parties hope the collaboration will continue in the future to bring broader benefits, especially in the development of mathematics in the North Maluku region.
